Structured deposits combine a deposit component with a return that is linked to the performance of another financial measure or underlying asset.

The return may, for example, be linked to an equity index, a group of shares, an interest rate, a commodity or another market indicator. The capital, return or both may be subject to specific conditions.

Learners examine how structured deposits are constructed, how returns are calculated, the applicable investment term and the circumstances in which access to the funds may be restricted. Particular attention is given to product complexity, liquidity, fees, market risk, counterparty risk and whether any capital protection is conditional or guaranteed.
